reading public cannot stand up to the impact, the
power, of television and computer screens. All of
which demand an enormous, a very deep kind of
participation in the thing that’s studied. And it’s
quite subliminal—but very profoundly deep and
that sort of participation when you extend it to
other people is tribal identity. It’s group identity.
Feminism is entirely group identity and comes from
the same mould.
